Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. The nursing rating is based on numerous datapoints. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. With 4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this place was above the national average. Lastly, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was awarded a high-end grade of A in our short-term care category. Our short-term care scores are likely most critical for those in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. This place outperformed most nursing homes in the nation in this area with 55 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is long-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of A. This topped off a very impressive profile. Few facilities received an A- or better in all four categories. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 95.9375 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.56 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
