While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This place was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to resident health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Additionally, we also wanted to note that this facility received favorable short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the nursing home's second strongest score. With our short-term care grade, we attempt to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Our nursing rating includes quite a few components, however, the main one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is far below average. Finally, although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this area.

Switching gears to our last area, this nursing home received a grade of C in long-term care, which we consider to be an acceptable score. In the category of long-term care, we weigh the amount of care provided by a nursing home, as opposed to more sophisticated services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is an above average figure. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
