Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this facility well overall, we would like to point out its decent government inspection reports in recent years. We gave it a somewhat respectable grade of B- in this category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing score is mostly based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is better than average. In determining our scores, we add additional weight to hours performed by more highly skilled nurses such as registered nurses. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. This facility performed admirably in this subcategory. Avoiding major falls is typically a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Many falls can be prevented if a nursing home offers enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B- in this area. Short-term care ratings are crucial for patients in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 44.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of residents are able to return home so this facility is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Our final category is long-term care, in which we awarded this nursing home a B- in that area. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
