Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave this facility an A+. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this facility's more favorable category scores came in the category of long-term care. This ended up being its second best category. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our long-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of nursing services. This means a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We discovered that this facility gave the vaccine to just 80.51643 percent of its residents, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we gave this nursing home an F. This is certainly not one of this facility's better areas. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is short-term care, which is this nursing home's weakest category. It received an abysmal F in this area, which is obviously a major concern. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is typically a useful assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
