Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that category, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was given a strong grade in our long-term care category. We gave this nursing home a better than average grade of B in that area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.58506 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. Our nursing grade is largely based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this subcategory. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Moving on to our last category, this facility was awarded a C for short-term care, which is generally an acceptable grade. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
