This nursing home received a strong overall score as described above, but we wanted to emphasize its excellent long-term care rating. We awarded them an A- in this category. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. This facility also performed well in inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with an A-. Few nursing homes with an overall grade in this range performed as well in multiple categories. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. Surprisingly, this nursing home was assessed a category L deficiency, which is not what we expected based on its inspection grade. This category of deficiency means the government inspectors identified a widespread deficiency placing patient health or safety in imminent danger. In spite of this major red flag, other aspects of this facility's inspection report gave us some hope.

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. Our nursing score features a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

The next area we scored is short-term care. We awarded it a B- in that area. This is a fair grade in this area. Our short-term care grades are likely most critical for patients in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below average.
