Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this critical area. Our inspection scores are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Not many facilities received a better grade in this area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.854965 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.98 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses spent with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This nursing home averages 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is short-term care. This nursing home was given an impressive short-term care grade in our assessment, with a grade of C. While this was not nearly as elite as some of its other grades, this is nevertheless a respectable rating for this category. Our short-term care grades are critical for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 31.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of residents are able to return home so this facility is below average.
