Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this facility a B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our more impressive scores. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. It performed better than most facilities in this area with 55.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded its next highest category score in the category of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a B- in this area, which is an acceptable grade. Long-term care grades assess a facility's personal care rather than the highly skilled nursing and medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated only 75.2443 percent of its patients. Unfortunately, this place's hospitalization rate was also below average. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.12 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this figure is somewhat concerning, this number can be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of patients
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded is nursing. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this area. We looked at the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in determining our score in this area. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as minimizing major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this metric.
