Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility was given its second highest category score in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. In determining our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Nursing scores are largely tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's least impressive category was long-term care, which is the last category we assessed. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were disappointed to learn that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 76.1194 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
