Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor dings aren't something to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we gave this facility a grade of B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our more favorable grades. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. The nursing rating is based on many components, however, the main one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared with most nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we scored is long-term care, which ended up being this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in this category. Unfortunately, this category hurt the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 61.654133 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
