Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home received an inspection grade which is better than its overall score. Inspection ratings are tied to the facility's recent government inspections. We awarded this facility an above average grade of B+ in this category. Our inspection scores are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received a positive score in our long-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B+ in this category. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our nursing score looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared with most other facilities. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this metric. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a patient at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we analyzed was short-term care. This facility received a grade of C for the area. Short-term care grades are important for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
