Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 88.97485 percent of its patients. This is somewhat lower than we were hoping for. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.36 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's third best category turned out to be its short-term care grade, where it was given a B-. In calculating our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is often a fair measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. It outperformed the majority of nursing homes in this area with 49.7 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Moving on to the last category, this nursing home received a decent nursing score of C. When determining our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. While this place didn't have as many nursing hours as many of the other nursing homes we assessed, it was still better than average in the area of preventing falls.
