Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
While we graded this facility extremely poorly overall, it received a more respectable long-term care score this year. We gave it a C in that category, which is the closest thing to a bright spot we were able to find for this facility. Our long-term care grades are essential for residents requiring personal care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 89.83051 percent of its residents. This is multiple points lower than average. Nevertheless, this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next best category was short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still performed somewhat badly. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Considering its abysmal score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this place offers substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Facility Inspections
We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection rating where it received a lowly F. When a place has this poor of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This nursing home was assessed a deficiency by CMS. Fortunately, it was not in one of the categories that suggest that it caused a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, we need to point out that this place was assessed significant government fines in recent years of over $50,000. This usually signifies that government inspectors grew tired after several years of failed government inspections.
Nurse Quality
The next category we assessed was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we consider the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the levels of training of the nurses. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics hurt this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
