This nursing home really excelled in the category of short-term care, with an A in this category. Short-term care grades are meaningful for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. This place performed as well as just about any nursing home in Wisconsin in this area with 92.3 percent of its residents returning home.

Inspections is another area where this facility excelled. In fact, we gave this nursing home an A- for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. In addition to ranking poorly in terms of nursing hours provided, this facility also fell short in certain statistics that are tied to quality of care. This facility's nursing score was pulled down by poor performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 16.3 percent of this facility's residents sustained pressure ulcers. This is more than double the average nursing home.

Switching gears to the last category, we gave this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care. This is the facility's least impressive category rating. Naturally, this score pulled down the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.38 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is far less favorable than its vaccination record.
