Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nursing care, this facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. This combination proved to be effective as this place keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 1.31 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. Nursing scores are largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With under five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also excelled in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Only a select group of facilities performed better in this category. Our short-term care grade is generally used to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. One of this facility's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its patients than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 60.5 percent of its residents returning home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Turning to our inspection category, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent government inspection reports. In fact, we gave it an A for that category. This finished off this place's straight A report card. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
