Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well overall, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Therefore, it received one of our highest scores in that area with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a first-rate long-term care score. In fact, this turned out to be this nursing home's second most impressive category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility was given a strong short-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The next category we looked at was nursing, where this facility received a B. While this ended up being its worst category grade, this is still an above average grade. The nursing grade is based on many factors, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
