Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Even though we gave this facility a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B- for our nursing category. Our nursing grade weighs several datapoints, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. While this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a patient more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its long-term care score, which ended up being one of its more respectable category grades. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.43066 percent of its residents, which is slightly less than we were hoping for. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a D for its short-term care grade, which is not a very good score. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is generally a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. With a grade this poor in this area, we weren't surprised to discover this nursing home was below average in two of the key staffing metrics we assess. In fact, it supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Facility Inspections
The last category we assessed is inspections. This facility did not receive favorable inspections in recent years. As a result, we had to give it an F here. When a nursing home has this poor of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
