Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care rating this year. We gave it a C in that category. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Nurse Quality
This facility excelled in the category of nursing, where it received a grade of C. Few places performed better in this category. Our nursing score is primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning residents more often.

Facility Inspections
We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grades where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspection reports. For places with bad inspection ratings, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 13 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a rock bottom grade. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated 76.375404 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is quite a few points lower than what we expected. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
