Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable score in the area of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this area, which is not bad. Our inspection ratings are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing rating is primarily tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its third highest category grade in the category of short-term care. We gave this nursing home a B- in this area, which is a decent score. Our short-term care grade is often used to judge a facility's rehabilitation services To have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we rated was long-term care, which is a low point for this facility. We awarded this nursing home a grade of just D in the area of long-term care. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 94.166664 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
