Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After looking at the significant amount of nursing care provided by this nursing home, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.43 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this figure may be skewed for some facilities due to some of the medical complexity of patients.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. The nursing rating weighs a handful of components, however, the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility offers a very impressive 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is among the highest figures in the state. Lastly, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility Arkansas in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home received a strong nursing grade in our assessment, with a grade of B. Even though this is not as strong as a few of its other category grades, this is nevertheless one of our stronger scores in this area. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to create a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was above average in this metric with 50.3 percent of its patients returning home.
