Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care score this year. We gave it a B- in that category. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most important for people requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we gave this facility an F. Nursing scores are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these datapoints to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections
This facility received a lowly F for its inspection grade. This is a particularly important category. Scores in this range typically mean we found some red flags on the nursing home's government inspection reports. When a nursing home has this poor of an inspection grade, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. This facility was assessed one deficiency by government inspectors. We were relieved to find that it was not in one of the categories that suggest that it posed a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in this area. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated 90.883194 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is quite a few points lower than what we expected. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
