We would like to point out that this nursing home's inspection score exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a B+ in this area, which is one of our better grades. Our inspection ratings are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Our nursing rating is largely based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is well below average. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.

The third highest category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Long-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's amount of care. This includes a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. We were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 88.45727 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is several points lower than the national average. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The last area we graded was short-term care. This nursing home was awarded a grade of C in this area. In determining these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
