Facility Inspections
On top of faring well overall, this facility earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Therefore, it received one of our best grades in that area with an A+. Inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing grades are largely associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls resulting in serious injury, this place performed as well as any facility the nation. Avoiding major falls is generally a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care rating. This is a first-rate score. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the significant amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final category, this facility also performed well in the short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. This wrapped up a straight A report card. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. It outperformed most facilities in the country in this area with 51.8 percent of its residents returning home. This is a better rate than most facilities.
