Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize that this nursing home earned near flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report, which is still very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility performed well in the area of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which happens to be one of our most dominant grades. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.757866 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also was awarded favorable short-term care grades in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of B+. Short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The final category we graded is nursing, which is this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Nevertheless, you should not judge this facility based only on a single bad area, since it had many excellent scores in other categories. There are numerous data points within this grade. Many of the factors are tied to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Unfortunately, this nursing home also did not fare as well as we hoped in some of the quality measures we looked at for this category.
