Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.40829 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our better grades in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. Short-term care grades are generally employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. It doesn't appear that this facility provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we looked at is this facility's weakest category. Nevertheless, even its worst category would actually be a strength for many facilities. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in our nursing category. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
