Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it earned a relatively impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better scores in that area with a B+. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home's second most favorable score is short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this area, it still fared somewhat badly. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Given its score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. The nursing category analyzes several datapoints, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the last category, this facility really didn't fare well here either. Due to a poor grade of F in long-term care, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 74.05064 percent of its patients. This is quite a bit below the national average. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
