Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We gave them an A+ in this area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also was given a dominant short-term care grade. This actually ended up being this facility's third strongest category score. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A-. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility also performed admirably in our nursing category. We gave it a B+ in this category. This completed a very impressive report card. Our nursing rating is primarily tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
