On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this place excelled in our inspections category, where it earned a grade of A+. Not many nursing homes fared better in that category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Additionally, this facility also was awarded favorable long-term care scores this year. Indeed, we awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B+. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.64158 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. The nursing rating includes a handful of datapoints, however, the primary consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The last category we scored is short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is a poor score. We wouldn't necessarily dismiss a facility as a result of one terrible category though. With our short-term care rating, we try to craft a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
