Facility Inspections
Although this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent short-term care rating in our assessment. We gave it a grade of C in that area. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most meaningful for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last measure we considered in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
The third category we assessed was long-term care. This nursing home's was given a bottom of the barrel long-term care grade where it received a lowly F. For residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is an abysmal score. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Unfortunately, this place also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this area. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing score quite a bit.
