Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving an elite overall score, this facility also earned an A+ inspection rating. This score is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the best complements we can pay to a nursing home. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also was superb in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A-. Few facilities fared better in this area. Our short-term care grades are likely most meaningful for residents needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to another strength for this facility, we gave them one of our more favorable grades in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 81.818184 percent of its residents. This is a bit less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we scored is nursing, in which this facility was given a grade of B. While this is its poorest category score, this is nevertheless a quality rating. In computing our nursing grades, we assess both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
