On top of receiving a strong overall score, this facility also earned an elite long-term care grade. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with an A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Turning to another one of this nursing home's strengths, it also received a very impressive inspection grade. Inspections proved to be one of its best category grades. In that area, we awarded this facility an A-. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. Nursing grades are largely tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure as it is well below the national average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.

The final area we rated was short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of D in the area of short-term care, rendering this the nursing home's worst grade. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.9 percent of its patients returning home.
