Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility performed well in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A+. Very few nursing homes fared this well in this category. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Among its many impressive scores, this nursing home received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it an B+ in that area. Nursing ratings are mostly associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving a resident more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this facility also received favorable long-term care grades in our assessment. In fact, we gave them one of our stronger scores in that category, with a score of B+. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home provided information about vaccinations. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last category we graded is short-term care. We awarded this facility one of our higher scores in that area, with a grade of B. This nursing home proved to be strong across the board. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
