Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A. Not many nursing homes fared better in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor dings are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this nursing home's other strengths is its superb long-term care grade. We awarded them one of our strongest grades in that category, with a score of A-. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize negative health outcomes for the senior population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Our nursing score assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home received an above average short-term care grade in our assessment, with a B-. Even though this is not quite as impressive as several of its other category grades, this remains a decent grade for that area. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
