Facility Inspections
To go along with its favorable overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for the area of inspections. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given strong grades in the category of long-term care as well. Consequently, we gave it one of our best grades in that category with a score of A. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of providing very impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This figure is also significantly better than the vast majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. There are several criteria within this grade. Most of the datapoints are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 6.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This was well above average. Furthermore, a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth category, this nursing home was awarded a C for short-term care, which is an acceptable rating. In determining our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is often a fair assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
