Nurse Quality
One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing actually turned out to be its best category. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. We assessed the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This facility provides an incredible 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is much better than what is offered by most nursing homes. Lastly, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients sustaining falls which lead to major injury, this nursing home performed as well as any nursing home in the state.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home received excellent inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given a favorable short-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average grade of B in this area. Short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 42.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is long-term care, proved to be this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this category. This really was one of the couple of weak points of a quality profile. For patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. After considering nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. With a long-term care grade in this range, it is surprising to discover that this nursing home fared reasonably well in both statistics. In fact, this facility vaccinated 98.95288 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.21 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
