Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a C for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection scores are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were in categories G through L. This tells you this facility avoided the more serious classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Unfortunately, this nursing home's second highest category is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. Our short-term care grades are thought to be more meaningful for residents needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its long-term care grade, which is not a score to write home about. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.773 percent of its patients, which is more than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

The next area we scored is nursing. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in that category. Nursing ratings are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
