Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's quality category scores came in the category of short-term care. We gave them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a score of B+. Our short-term care grade is often used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This facility offered more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This place performed decently , with 45.5 percent of its residents able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B. It outpaced most nursing homes in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 98.86364 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The last category we assessed is nursing. In this area, we gave this facility a favorable grade of B. There are several subcategories within this grade. Many of these data points relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
