In addition to performing well overall, this facility also received nearly flawless government inspections. Therefore, it received one of our highest scores in that area with a grade of A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home fared well in the category of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our most elite scores. For residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 70.481926 percent of its patients. This is a bit below what we expected but still a decent figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

The next category we looked at is short-term care, where this facility received a grade of B- in this area. With our short-term care grade, we endeavor to forge a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

The next category we looked at was nursing. This nursing home received an above average nursing rating this year, with a grade of B-. Although this isn't nearly as impressive as many of its other scores, this is still a respectable grade for that area. The nursing grade analyzes several subcategories, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, although this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this area.
