Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this facility received a superb score of A in our long-term care area. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Only a select group of facilities fared better in this category. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at was nursing, in which this facility received a B. Believe it or not, this proved to be this nursing home's least impressive category. A facility could be doing a lot worse when their poorest score still beats out most other facilities. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Indiana in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving a patient more frequently.
