We also wanted to point out that this nursing home has received near flawless inspections recently. We awarded them an A+ in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to be given multiple A+ category grades. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.65 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

Moving on our next area, we awarded this facility a score of A for our short-term care rating. This is a superb rating. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services To have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who returned to the community from this nursing home. This place outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation with 62.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.

Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. We awarded it an A in that area. This rounded out truly elite profile. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are with residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. At least one quarter of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. This is a high percentage of skilled nursing. In determining our nursing ratings, we apply more weight to hours provided by registered or licensed nurses. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
