Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize that this facility earned near flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. The nursing rating weighs a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility received an impressive long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our higher scores in that area with a grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 95.04373 percent of its patients, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B-. Although this ended up being its worst category score, this is still nothing to be ashamed of. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.
