Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place is a strong nursing home is that it earned a very impressive inspection grade. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Our inspection grades are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave it one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. In calculating these short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. The nursing rating is based on several subcategories, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at is this facility's weakest area. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still awarded it a decent grade of B- in our long-term care category. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.75 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
