Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher grades in that area, with an A. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category scores came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Another issue was the F this nursing home received in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its weak grade in this category, we weren't surprised to find this facility offers far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Nurse Quality
The next area we analyzed was nursing. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is an abysmal score. This is obviously a major disappointment. We assessed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. This facility also had abysmal scores in several of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this statistic. This is concerning when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a weak nursing score.
