Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a strong overall score, this facility also excelled in inspections, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We awarded it an A in that category. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its dominant resume, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care area. In fact, it received a score of A for the area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. This facility's vaccination statistics lagged a bit behind a few of its other datapoints in this category, such as its nursing hours. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 87.8327 percent of its patients. We would like to see some improvement in this area next year. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was superb in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. With our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at the nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed most facilities in the country in this area with 53.9 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final category we looked at, this facility was awarded an impressive grade grade of A- in our nursing category. With this grade, the facility rounded out a straight A profile. When determining a facility's nursing score, we consider the number of hours nurses are seeing patients and the levels of training of the nurses. This facility boasts a really impressive 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
