Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we gave this facility an abysmal overall score, we awarded it a C for our nursing category. The nursing score weighs a handful of datapoints, but the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a very low figure. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of long-term care, this facility was given just a D in that category. As it turns out, this wound up being one of its best areas. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 92.048195 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is a few points less than we anticipated but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, with a grade of D in the inspection category, this facility performed relatively poorly in that area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. We recommend you scrutinize the level of severity of the deficiencies. Tragically, this nursing home was assessed a category L deficiency. This type of deficiency indicates multiple widespread threats to patient safety or health. This type of deficiency is toxic to a nursing home's inspection rating. Finally, this facility also received 8 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this area, which is a very poor grade. In determining these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Given its abysmal rating in this category, we were not shocked to find this facility offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.5 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
