Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of A+. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection ratings are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
An additional strength of this facility is its first-rate grade in short-term care. We awarded it one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of A-. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home provides a decent amount of services from physical therapists and registered nurses based on our assessment. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Ohio in this area with 71.6 percent of its patients returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of long-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in this category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After assessing nursing hours provided by this facility, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. With a long-term care grade in this range, we were surprised to discover that this nursing home received respectable marks in both statistics. Indeed, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our next category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D in the area of nursing. This was the facility's least impressive category grade. Sadly, this grade hurt the facility's overall profile to a certain degree. Nursing scores are tied to quantity of nursing care available. According to CMS records, this place averaged 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This was actually above the national average. Keep in mind, however, that when we compute our nursing scores, we apply more weight to hours performed by nurses with a higher level of skill. Despite performing well in terms of nursing hours, this place didn't perform as well in the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility was above the national average in both statistics. This is not a good sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
