While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing ratings are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Moving on to the area of short-term care, this nursing home was given a grade of just D in that category. Short-term care grades are critical for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its score in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we looked at. The final metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.9 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.

The final area we assessed was long-term care, which is this facility's weakest area. It received a lowly F for this category, which is obviously a major concern. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the facility didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to patient care. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated just 72.10884 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
