The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

We also awarded this facility a favorable grade in nursing. This facility earned a grade of B in this category, which is one of our better grades. The nursing score weighs a variety of datapoints. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning patients more often.

The final area we looked at is long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of C in this category. Our long-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of nursing care. This includes a broad range of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility provided information on its vaccination levels. Lastly, this facility excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital.
