Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Although we were down on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B in nursing. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in determining our rating in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving residents even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category scores came in the category of short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this category. With our short-term care category, we attempt to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we graded is long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a decent grade of C. In the area of long-term care, we look at the quantity of services provided by a facility, rather than more medically-intensive services. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 92.81437 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is slightly less than we anticipated but still a decent figure. Nevertheless, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Turning to our final category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. We weight this category more heavily than our other categories. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection score. We would scrutinize the level of severity of those deficiencies. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we have information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, we need to point out that this nursing home was assessed significant government fines in recent years of over $100,000. This typically suggests that a facility's bad track record spanned multiple years.
