Facility Inspections
In addition to being a strong facility overall, this facility really excelled in our inspections category, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities fared better in that area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Building on this facility's list of strengths, it also earned an excellent nursing rating. We gave them an impressive grade of B- in this area. Our nursing grade is primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B- in this area. Our short-term care scores are probably more critical for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded was long-term care. We awarded it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 91.21447 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is slightly lower than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
