Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Sadly, this facility received a category L deficiency, which is unexpected based on its inspection grade. This category means inspectors identified a widespread deficiency placing patient safety or health in imminent jeopardy. Even a single deficiency in this category is concerning. While other aspects of this nursing home's inspection report were favorable, we have some reservations.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this nursing home just a D for our long-term care grade and that actually wound up as its second best score. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were surprised to find that this nursing home also excelled in the category of nursing. In fact, we gave it a score of D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weighed the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in computing our score in this category. This nursing home provided a meager 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we assessed was short-term care, in which this nursing home received a poor grade here also. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is obviously very concerning. Short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. With a grade this poor in this category, we were not surprised to discover this facility was below average in several staffing metrics we assess. The facility offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 1.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
